God in our Interruption
"God is always present in our interruption but seldom in our plans" Gloria Gaither
The people mentioned as men/women of Faith were all ordinary people. But why we read about them in the Bible is because of a God interruption. The divine interruption!!!
And one such person who was disrupted was Mary. Mary was a young girl and she was betrothed to be married to Joseph. And she probably had some plans laid out for her wedding. But the angel of the Lord appeared to her and disrupted all her plans. She was divinely interrupted!!!
Verse: Luke 1:29
29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be
This interruption perplexed her. She was not sure what to expect..... good or bad. But with assurance from the angel of the Lord, she just accepted the will of the Lord. She didn't understand fully what the message from the angel of the Lord meant, but went along. Here is what we can learn from the story of Mary
- Let us accept life as it is
- Surround yourself with Godly people
- God is good and your interruption is for good
Let us accept life as it is
There are a lot of things that we are not in control of. And this starts from the time we are born. We are not in control of where and when we are born. And this uncertainity continues all through out.
But when we accept life as it is, we give control to God in our lives. This act is a worship unto God. The other person who struggled with the happening in his life is Job. He struggled internally but accepted it and submitted to God and God commended him and blessed him more, in the end of his life
There is also Joseph who accepted his condition. The stages of his life were divided into 3..... the pit, prison and the palace. But there was no grumbling against God even when life got hard.
Finally Jesus also cried out to His Father when he was moments away from being arrested and crucified. Jesus asked for the cup of suffering to be removed. But Jesus accepted God's will. When you accept God's will, you fulfill God's purpose and life becomes easier. There is no way you are fighting against God's purpose.
Verse: Proverbs 19:21
21 Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
Surround yourself with Godly people
Mary in her moment of interruption kept the company of Godly people. She rushed to the house of Zechariah and Elizabeth
Verse: Luke 1:39-40
39 In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah,
40 and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth
Job on the other hand had some troublesome friends. The conversation drove Job into further misery. You need to keep the company of Godly people. And when you do, you will be encouraged as Mary was encouraged.
Verse: Luke 1:42
42 and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
The conversation with Elizabeth could have gone the wrong way. She could have accused Mary of sin of fornication. But instead she recognized God's interruption and called her blessed.
God is good and your interruption is for good
Daniel was interrupted in his prayer. And the angel of God had to do this quickly
Verse: Daniel 9:21
21 while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the first, came to me in swift flight at the time of the evening sacrifice.
The conversation with the angel of God that followed revealed some of the greatest prophesies for the Jews.
Conclusion
When Jesus became God for take of saving humankind, everything about Jesus was interrupted. Jesus left his glory, became man and suffered the a cursed death (Gal 3:13). This interruption lead many people being called into the Kingdom of God. Just like this interruption caused many to be saved (including us), let us remember that our interruption has the purpose. Let us accept it and see the wonders of God's purpose. This brings rejoicing just like Mary rejoiced.
Verse: Luke 1:46,47
46 And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
