SundaySermon - Prince - Pearl of Great Price

Pearl of Great Price

The Kingdom of God is explained by various parables. The Kingdom of God is likened to a great Pearl

Verse: Matthew 13:45‭-‬46

45 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls.

46 When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!

The value of the pearl could be only judged by the merchant. The merchant is a seeker and he seeks out for pearls in markets that has the source from the sea. Here symbolically speaking here are the three elements and the explanation

  • Merchant: Jesus
  • Pearl: People of God
  • Sea: the world

Jesus is looking to draw our treasures from you and I

Jesus as the Merchant

The process of the formation of the pearl will require for a foreign object that enters the oyster. It is only then that the formation starts.

And so it is with the church and the people of God while on earth. There will be difficult times while we are here. But the difficult times are the times which produces the greatest and the most glorious results.

Verse: 1 Peter 1:6

So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while.

The formation of the Kingdom of God has its starting points in trials

Verse: Isaiah 48:10

I have refined you, but not as silver is refined. Rather, I have refined you in the furnace of suffering.

Peter urges the church again and again to stand strong and not be surprised

Verse: 1 Peter 4:12

Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.

Once we know that God has a plan through the trials, we are able to get through this molding time more easily.

Moses was able to guide the people and give confidence because of his trust in God to lead them to the promised land. This was even when he was faced with the raging Red Sea

Verse: Exodus 14:13

But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again.

And when you know that God has a plan, you will be calm in the midst of difficulty like Job. Job was in confusion and could not perceive God. But he had hope in God.

Verse: Job 23:8‭-‬10

8 I go east, but he is not there. I go west, but I cannot find him.

9 I do not see him in the north, for he is hidden. I look to the south, but he is concealed.

10 “But he knows where I am going. And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold.

Also Paul who went through very difficult times constantly encouraged the church

Verse: Acts 14:22

22 where they strengthened the believers. They encouraged them to continue in the faith, reminding them that we must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God.

And Jesus the merchant will bring difficult times in our lives to bring out the treasures.

What are these treasures that Jesus is trying to bring out?

  • Wisdom
  • God (revealed in us)

Wisdom

The wisdom of God is far more precious that earthly wisdom.

Verse: Job 28:18

18 Coral and jasper are worthless in trying to get it. The price of wisdom is far above rubies.

And God made wisdom first. And wisdom is calling out to men to seek her

Verse: Proverbs 8:22‭-‬23

22 “The Lord formed me from the beginning, before he created anything else.

23 I was appointed in ages past, at the very first, before the earth began.

Daniel was the wise man and pagan people recognised him

Verse: Daniel 5:14

14 I have heard that you have the spirit of the gods within you and that you are filled with insight, understanding, and wisdom.

God

God needs to be sought out because often times he is hidden

Verse: 1 Kings 8:12

Then Solomon prayed, “O Lord, you have said that you would live in a thick cloud of darkness.

Moses had to plead with God to see him. And yet he saw only His back. Elijah was buffeted by thunder and storm but could only find God in the still small verse.

Conclusion

Allow Jesus to bring out the treasures that are meant for us. This prayer might brings troubles but this is necessary to bring out the pearls in our lives.
