Bad Words
Verse: Exodus 34:6-7
6 The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out, “Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.
7 I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But I do not excuse the guilty. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren; the entire family is affected— even children in the third and fourth generations.”
Three bad words - Sin, Trangression and Iniquity
Sin
Sin means missing the mark. God has standards for us. And when we fall short of the standards, it results in Sin
Verse: Romans 3:23
23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
The word states that all have sinned... starting from Adam. He fell short, missed the mark to be that image of God. We all fall to live up to the image of God. We are created in the image of God and that is what we ought to be in our life on earth.
And there is no one on earth who can full represent the image of God. And only the blood of Jesus can restore the image of God in our lives.
And why is it that we cannot represent and reflect the image of God adequately.... it is because our nature (what we are in the inside) falls short.
Verse: Ephesians 2:3
3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.
Again the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart. It is the heart of man that is decietful and full of evil.
Verse: Jeremiah 17:9
9 “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?
When the heart is sick, you need a physician..... and Jesus is that physician. Only Jesus can remove the wickedness. And how can Jesus do this.... because he represented God accurately. Jesus the image of God.
Verse: Colossians 1:15
15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,
And thank God for Jesus Christ
Verse: Romans 7:25
Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin.
Transgression
Transgression means breaking the Law. The law is in place so that we don't go into a place of danger. And the Law is like a fence so we are in a safe place. When there is transgression, it means your fence is broken.
The people of Israel was enticed to out of the fenced area of relationship. They associated with the women of Moab.
Verse: Numbers 31:16
16 “These are the very ones who followed Balaam’s advice and caused the people of Israel to rebel against the Lord at Mount Peor. They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the Lord’s people.
The fence could be intepreted in our keeping of trust. We are able to commune with God and each other because of trust. When trust is broken, it is trangression
Verse: Leviticus 6:2
2 “Suppose one of you sins against your associate and is unfaithful to the Lord. Suppose you cheat in a deal involving a security deposit, or you steal or commit fraud,
Iniquity
Iniquity means scheming, crafty, twisted, perverted.
Achan planned the wrong in the craftiness of his mind and hid the items he stole. He broke faith willfully.
Verse: Joshua 22:20
Did not Achan the son of Zerah break faith in the matter of the devoted things, and wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? And he did not perish alone for his iniquity.’”
Are you drowning in the pit of Sin, Trangression and Inquity?
He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. Psalms 40:2
Only God can lift you up. Reach out your hand out of the pit... take a hold of Jesus and he will lift you up.
