SundaySermon - Prince - Escape from Babylon

Escape from Babylon

We are constantly bombarded with temptation and the ways of the world. We are called to escape this enticement.

Verse: Zechariah 2:7

7 “Come away, people of Zion, you who are exiled in Babylon!””

The people of Israel were successful in their land of captivity - Babylon. There was very little incentive for the people to leave Babylon and return. But there were a few who return because they had in them the love of Jerusalem. We are called to have the love of the Father

Verse: 1 John 2:15

15 “Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you.”

‭How is this relevant to us. Babylon represents behavioural patterns and thought process. And hence we need to transform ourselves into a new person.

Verse: Romas 12:2

2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Here are some other points on Babylon

  • Defiance/Confusion
  • Pride
  • Dwelling place of Demons

Confusion

The people in Genesis wanted to build a tower in defiance and God struck them with confusion.

Verse: Genesis 11:9

9 “That is why the city was called Babel, because that is where the Lord confused the people with different languages. In this way he scattered them all over the world.”

We are to wilfully cultivate the right thinking pattern in our mind so as to escape the trap of defiance and confusion. God helps us and provides clarity for our next steps in life.

This confusion happens when we are not rooted. We listen to everyone and mix all the ideas.

Verse: Hosea 7:8

8 ““The people of Israel mingle with godless foreigners, making themselves as worthless as a half-baked cake!”

Pride

Babylon was a beautiful place. It was the most glorious of all kingdoms.

Verse: Isaiah 13:19

19 “Babylon, the most glorious of kingdoms, the flower of Chaldean pride, will be devastated like Sodom and Gomorrah when God destroyed them.”

This beauty lead to arrogance and so this lead to a great fall.

Verse: Ezekiel 28:15

15 ““You were blameless in all you did from the day you were created until the day evil was found in you.”

‭‭What is the antidote for pride? ….. Fear God

Verse: Proverbs 31:30

30 “Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.”

And when we fear God, we are truly adorned with beauty

Verse: 1 Peter 3:4

4 “You should clothe yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.”

Dwelling place of Demons

When we engage with false ideology we are making our home with demons.

Verse: Revelations 18:2

2 “He gave a mighty shout: “Babylon is fallen—that great city is fallen! She has become a home for demons. She is a hideout for every foul spirit, a hideout for every foul vulture and every foul and dreadful animal.”

And this cuts us off from God and logical thinking. Because it is impossible to do deal with God and demons at the same time

Verse: 1 Corinthians 10:21

21 “You cannot drink from the cup of the Lord and from the cup of demons, too. You cannot eat at the Lord’s Table and at the table of demons, too.”

Escape Babylon - Escape Death

Verse: Genesis 19:14

14 “So Lot rushed out to tell his daughters’ fiancés, “Quick, get out of the city! The Lord is about to destroy it.” But the young men thought he was only joking.”

Lot tried to get all his family out out imminent death. He managed to get his wife and daughters out of town. But his wife didn’t go too far because she turned back…. Let us not turn back….. Let us not be mixed and married with the world.

Let us give ourselves fully to the Bible - Word of God.
