SundaySermon - Prince - The Day of the Lord
The Day of the Lord
There are several references to the Day of the Lord. And it has different consequences for different people. So some it will be a day of judgement… and to others it will be the day of redemption.
Verse: Zechariah 14:1
1 “Watch, for the day of the Lord is coming when your possessions will be plundered right in front of you!”
The Day of the Lord will be a revelation of who the Lord is…. He is the Lamb and the Lion at the same time. There is fearful gentleness associated with God. So it is important to make peace with God.
Verse: Psalm 2:12
12 “Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities— for his anger flares up in an instant. But what joy for all who take refuge in him!”
The Day of the Lord - End of the Day of Man
What does they Day of the Lord mean? If there is a day associated to a person, it means that it is special for that concerned person. So the Day of the Lord is the end of the Day of Man. Everything associated with Man will be swept away like a flood. Only the Lord will be exalted when the Son of Man comes.
Verse: Matthew 24:38-29
38 “In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat.
39 People didn’t realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.”
Day of the Lord - The Day of Israel’s Redemption
This chapter talks of the nations raging and making war with Israel. But this coming together of the nations brings about the establishment of Israel.
Verse: Zechariah 12:9
9 “For on that day I will begin to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.”
10 ““Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the family of David and on the people of Jerusalem. They will look on me whom they have pierced and mourn for him as for an only son. They will grieve bitterly for him as for a firstborn son who has died.”
Besides the restoration of the land, there will be a spiritual restoration. … there will be a spirit of grace and prayer….
The Day of the Lord - The Day of our Redemption
Verse: Ephesians 4:30
30 “And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.”
That redemption (or saving) comes only through Jesus. And so let us take up his offer of salvation.
Like a thief in the night
Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3, 6-8
2 “For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.
3 When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape.”
6 “So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.
7 Night is the time when people sleep and drinkers get drunk.
8 But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.”
