It is finished!

It is finished!

We often associate victory with life to those who are in battle. The Good Friday story is the only victory story that was of death. The victory statement is small voice "it is finished"

In the moment of this quiet victory, Jesus had other declarations to make.

Verse: John 19:26-27

[26] When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, “Dear woman, here is your son.”

[27] And he said to this disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from then on this disciple took her into his home.

Jesus was nearing death and yet he was mindful of his earthly duty. He was a son and he asked for his mother to be taken care of.

Often times, when faced with abandonment from those who you love, we don't have the ability to love others. But this declaration speaks loud of our responsibilities.

We need as Christians to follow Jesus' example and care for those in our family and our church. You are probably going through a hard time. But your obligation to look for those around is you vital. And when you do the simple act of taking care of your family, you honor God.

Verse: John 19:28

[28] Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.”

This statement reflects strongly that Jesus is fully human. Jesus not only fully went throught he troubles of the flesh but was also despised. This added to pain.

Verse: Isaiah 53:3

[3] He was despised and rejected— a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care.

And of all the statements of the cross, the quietest one was this

Verse: John 19:30

[30] When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

This quiet statement brought access to the whole world for salvation. While the appearance may be quiet, it had a crushing effect on the enemy - "striking the head"

Verse: Genesis 3:15

[15] And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.”

The consequence of this victory is

Verse: John 17:3

[3] And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.

And God wants for this victory to continue in our life as well. And this victory comes through our lives when we take up our cross and follow him. Our responsibility is to take up when Jesus commissioned us to do.

As the Father sent Christ, Christ has sent us to spread the word of salvation.

Can we respond and be faithful to the call of our God Jesus, the maker of heaven and earth,  the King of the Jews?

Verse: John 19:19

[19] And Pilate posted a sign on the cross that read, “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews.”
