 Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit was the promise and was the "other counsellor". This promise was made to all who believed in Jesus. The Holy Spirit fell first on the 120 people who waited on the promise.  And the Holy Spirit outpouring on the day of Pentacost is the birth of the Church.

We need the Holy Spirit because He does the following for us

  • Brings Jesus into my heart
  • Brings the character of Jesus
  • Empowers me to do the work of Christ
  • Prepares me for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ

Here are some points of the Holy Spirit

  • It is a a Promise
  • Reminds us
  • Helps us Witness
  • Inspires us
  • Gentle Spirit
  • Promotes Jesus
  • Prays on our behalf
  • Leads us
  • Helps us to Love
  • Fills us with Joy

Here is the promise that Jesus spoke about.

Verse: Luke 24:49

49 “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”

The 120 people didn't do anything until they received that power from on high. So if this was the first requirement before you can do what God wants you to do.

We need the Holy Spirit because He reminds us of what Jesus spoke about

Verse: John 15:26-27

26 “But I will send you the Advocate[b]—the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me.

27 And you must also testify about me because you have been with me from the beginning of my ministry

We need the Holy Spirit to witness

Verse: Acts 1:8

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

We need the Holy Spirit to inspire others around us and ourselves

Verse: 1 Timothy 3:16

16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

The Holy Spirit is a gentle Spirit. He doesn't need to live in our bodies. But he is choosing to be with us to empower

Verse: Romans 8:11

11 The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

The Holy Spirit never promotes Himself or you. The Holy Spirit only promotes Jesus. And our mindset needs to change..... we need to move to live for Jesus. And then the Holy Spirit fills us more.

When we are filled with the Holy Spirit we are lead by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit prays on our behalf

Verse: Romans 8:26

26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.

The Holy Spirit leads me but He does not stop us

The Holy Spirit helps us to love

Verse: Romans 5:5

5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

The Holy Spirit gives us Joy

Verse: Psalm 51:10-12

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.

11 Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.

12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.
