 Seeds and Weeds

The Kingdom of God is to be sought after above all else

Verse: Matthew 6:33

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

We dedicate so much of our lives to the Kingdom of God. But what God needs the most is your heart. The matters of the Kingdom is the matter of the heart.

In out continuation of the study of the Kingdom of God, we will look at this parable

Verse: Matthew 13:24‭-‬30

24 Here is another story Jesus told: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field.

25 But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away.

26 When the crop began to grow and produce grain, the weeds also grew.

27 “The farmer’s workers went to him and said, ‘Sir, the field where you planted that good seed is full of weeds! Where did they come from?’

28 “‘An enemy has done this!’ the farmer exclaimed. “‘Should we pull out the weeds?’ they asked.

29 “‘No,’ he replied, ‘you’ll uproot the wheat if you do.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.’”

The consequences of the wheat and the weeds are different. The consequences are wrong choices (weeds) are dire. Let us understand seeds and weeds better

What produces weeds?

  1. Wrong doctrine
  2. Negative thoughts
  3. Unsanctified emotions

1) Wrong doctrine

People will be swayed by wrong doctrine. This produces weeds

Verse: 1 Timothy 4:1‭-‬2

1 Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.

2 These people are hypocrites and liars, and their consciences are dead.

The nature of the people are written in this verse

Verse: 1 Timothy 6:3‭-‬4

3 Some people may contradict our teaching, but these are the wholesome teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. These teachings promote a godly life.

4 Anyone who teaches something different is arrogant and lacks understanding. Such a person has an unhealthy desire to quibble over the meaning of words. This stirs up arguments ending in jealousy, division, slander, and evil suspicions.

And these weeds are among our gatherings.

Verse: Jude 1:12

When these people eat with you in your fellowship meals commemorating the Lord’s love, they are like dangerous reefs that can shipwreck you. They are like shameless shepherds who care only for themselves. They are like clouds blowing over the land without giving any rain. They are like trees in autumn that are doubly dead, for they bear no fruit and have been pulled up by the roots.

2) Negative thoughts

This is detrimental to our soul. There is a progression of negative thoughts to wrong desires and ultimately sin

Verse: James 1:13‭-‬15

13 And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else.

14 Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.

15 These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.

Negative thoughts are lying about your actual worth. Please see how the King Ahab was influenced by the wrong spirit

Verse: 1 Kings 22:22

“‘How will you do this?’ the Lord asked. “And the spirit replied, ‘I will go out and inspire all of Ahab’s prophets to speak lies.’ “‘You will succeed,’ said the Lord. ‘Go ahead and do it.’

And this battle cause the death of King Ahab.

3) Unsanctified emotions

Entertainment of unsanctified emotions can bring destruction to your soul. The story of King Saul is one where he entertained anger

Verse: 1 Samuel 18:8

This made Saul very angry. “What’s this?” he said. “They credit David with ten thousands and me with only thousands. Next they’ll be making him their king!”

And this anger opened the way for a tormenting spirit and this lead to him to final death in the battle.

What produces seeds?

Seeds are produced when you obey the truth..... that is the Word of God.

Verse: 1 Peter 1:22

22 You were cleansed from your sins when you obeyed the truth, so now you must show sincere love to each other as brothers and sisters. Love each other deeply with all your heart.

The day of separation

The seeds and the weeds will be separated

Verse: Matthew 13:30

30 Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.’”

The fire is not meant for man...... it is prepared for devil and his demons.

Verse: Matthew 25:41

“Then the King will turn to those on the left and say, ‘Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons.

So let us choose to be the seed and not the weed
