 Tent of Meeting

The practice of meeting God at the Tent of Meeting came out of a difficult situation. God was telling the people that he would not travel with the people of Israel again.

Verse: Exodus 33:7

7 It was Moses’ practice to take the Tent of Meeting and set it up some distance from the camp. Everyone who wanted to make a request of the Lord would go to the Tent of Meeting outside the camp.

The promise of God was still on.... they would conquer and settle in the Land of Canaan. But for Moses, this was not enough. He was not happy with a comfortable life. And so Moses decided to worship God willfully. So here are some points.

  • Pitched his tent outside (Take time off)
  • Weight of His glory (Experience)
  • God met Moses (Intimacy)

Pitched his tent outside (Take time off)

We must not seek God for our needs sake, we need to seek God for God's sake

Moses decided to move away from his regular routine and seek God. Because God promises to be found by those who seek him sincerely

Verse: Jeremiah 29:13‭-‬14

13 Then [with a deep longing] you will seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will] find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

14 I will be found by you,’ says the Lord,

To be found by God was all Moses needed. This meant sacrifices. God is urging us to take this uncomfortable step

Verse: Hebrews 13:13

13 So let us go out to him, outside the camp, and bear the disgrace he bore.

Weight of His Glory  (Experience)

Our life brings us to points where we need to take up responsibilities. The responsibilities often weighs us down momentarily. But we realise the rewards of taking responsibility comes in

Well Worship  of God can be a weighty affair. The people in worship along with Moses often felt the weight of the Pillar of cloud. So the Tent of Meeting will bring you the place where you experience the weight of His glory

Verse: Exodus 33:10

10 Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at the entrance to their tent.

Paul in his worship to God mentions that our affliction is momentary. But be sure, we will experience the eternal weight of glory

Verse: 2 Corinthians 4:16‭-‬17

16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.

17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,

God met Moses (Intimacy)

Moses was looking to be with God. And God spoke to him face to face

Verse: Exodus 33:11

Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.

And in this meeting, God would share secrets that was never known before. It was only to Moses that God revealed his Name

Verse: Exodus 6:2‭-‬3

2 God spoke to Moses and said to him, “I am the Lord.

3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by my name the Lord I did not make myself known to them.

Conclusion

God is looking for us to seek his face.

Verse: Psalms 27:8

My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”
