SundaySermon - Prince - Standing Firm
Standing Firm
Verse: Ephesians 6:10-11
10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
There are three things that we need to stand against - Lust of the Flesh, Lust the eyes and Pride of life
Verse: 1 John 2:16
For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.
Here are three pointers
- Stand for the Truth
- Stand and Fight
- Stand as Kings and Priest
Stand for the Truth
So how do we stand firm against this. And this standing firm means to holding our position against lies. The position we hold on to is truth.
The scheme the devil is using is deception and the war is against our position on Truth.... We are to recognise this even if this may come and appear as servants of righteousness
Verse: 2 Corinthians 11:15
It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.
Today, we are exposed to philosophies that are enticing because it allows to live without any accountability to the Almighty God. Why is this enticing. This is because the philosophies of the world resonate with our sinful nature. We need to stand against our own sinful nature.
Stand and Fight
Verse: Ephesians 6:12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
We need to clear that we fight against the spiritual darkness in the heavenly realm. And the darkness in heavenly realm is really targeting your home... your family
Nehemiah was one person who saw that his family and his people were exposed.... He took on himself to build a wall. Nehemiah had to go beyond just building the wall..... he had to get people to stand with armour ..... ready for battle.
Verse: Nehemiah 4:13-14
13 Therefore I stationed some of the people behind the lowest points of the wall at the exposed places, posting them by families, with their swords, spears and bows.
14 After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”
We need to go our beyond prayers to bless our family. We need to arm ourselves with sword ..... it is the sword of the Spirit. We need to ask God to fill us with the Holy Spirit.
Stand as kings and priests
My sons, do not be negligent now, for the Lord has chosen you to stand before him and serve him, to minister before him and to burn incense.”
Stand before the Lord as Priest. It is important to not loose our identity of who we are..... When we loose our identity, we loose our confidence. Remember that our confidence is deter the enemy from carrying out his schemes
Standing before the Lord also means that we revere the Lord. If we fear the Lord, then we need not fear anyone else
