 Praying in the Spirit

Verse: Ephesians 6:18

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

This passage talks about the armour of God. ..... There is a sword of the Spirit. And we ought to take our prayers in the offensive and praying in the Spirit 

What does it mean to pray in the Spirit? We understand what the body is ..... because we can see this. The soul may be our emotions..... But what is the spirit? And yet we are asked to pray in the Spirit.

We may not understand the fullness of "praying in the Spirit". And so we need to ask God to help us pray according to the Spirit.

Natural Prayers

Prayers that satisfy us in the natural. 

Verse: James 4:3

When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasure

Prayers made to satisfy our passions and pleasures are natural prayers. 

Soul-ish Prayers

Prayers that are not in accordance with God's will.

Verse: Isaiah 38:2‭-‬3

2 When Hezekiah heard this, he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 

3 “Remember, O Lord, how I have always been faithful to you and have served you single-mindedly, always doing what pleases you.” Then he broke down and wept bitterly.

The prophet's words to set things in order broke Hezekiah. God's purpose for his life was fulfilled. But God listened and answered Hezekiah's prayer and added 15 years. Hezekiah could not see God's plan. The 15 years that were added set the stage for destruction of Judah and Jerusalem.

We need to pray according to God's purpose. How do we pray according to God's will?

Verse: 1 Corinthians 14:2

2 For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious.

When you pray in tongues, you are speaking mysteries and praying according to God's will. We don't fully understand this but allow his truth to guide you.

Verse: Romans 8:26

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.

Prayer impacts the Spiritual World

The realm of the spirit affects the natural. And teh only way to impact the realm of the spirit is through prayer 

Verse: Daniel 10:13

13 But for twenty-one days the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels, came to help me, and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia.

There was a war in heaven between the angels. And Daniel's consistent prayer finally brought the break-through in the spiritual.

Morality Standards A picture is painted of a potter fashioning clay to his liking. And this animated picture brings life to the clay, with the clay protesting the Potters's design. This surprised Potter asks "Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?" Jeremiah 18:5 NIV It seems completely reasonable and moral that the Potter is allowed to shape the clay to his design and liking. Conversely it is unreasonable and immoral for the clay to protest the Potter's design.   "You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay!"
