NewYear Sermon - Prince - Get yourself ready

 Get yourself ready

God has wonderful plans for us. And so God is asking us to get ourselves ready!

Verse: Jeremiah 1:17

17 “Get yourself ready! Stand up and say to them whatever I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them.

Three pointers

  1. Parable of the 10 virgins - Get the Holy Spirit

  2. Prepare ourselves

  3. Get ready for War - Prayer

Parables of the 10 Virgins - Get the Holy Spirit

Verse: Matthew 25:10

10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.

The story is about the virgins who were preparing to receive the Bridegroom. The 5 who didn’t prepare were identified as foolish. The other 5 had sufficient oil for this welcome. The oil represents the Holy Spirit. Let us pray for the Holy Spirit.

Let us pray earnestly for the Holy Spirit

Verse: Leviticus 8:12

12 He poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron’s head and anointed him to consecrate him.

The Holy Spirit anointing sets you apart for the work of the Lord. This was the beginning of his service of the Priesthood.

Prepare ourselves

God is asking us to get our living right. We will need to make sure that when the King comes in, we will our lives are prepared

Verse: Matthew 3:3

3 This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”

What are the arrangements we need to make?

Verse: Isaiah 40:3-5

3 A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord[a]; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.[b]

4 Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain.

5 And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

Mountains need to be leveled, Valleys need to be filled up so that the King will have the level ground for the arrival. This means that our lifestyle needs to be rearranged. It is only after this will the glory of the Lord will be revealed

Get ready for War - Prayer

Our war is in the Heavenly places. And our weapons are prayers.

Verse: Joel 3:9-10

9 Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare for war! Rouse the warriors! Let all the fighting men draw near and attack.

10 Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weakling say, “I am strong!”

War is not easy. But we need to keep at prayer until God comes.

Conclusion - Get ready to take down Giants

Caleb was one person who was ready for God. The mountain that God had in store for him required a battle. But Caleb had the confidence to take down Giants.

Verse: Joshua 14:10-12

10 “Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old!

11 I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then.

12 Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.”
