 Foolishness of God

Verse: 1 Corinthians 1:25

This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.

God's ways are different and often impractical. Here are a few instances

  • Noah built the ark
  • Choosing 8 year old
  • Cross

Noah built the ark

Verse: Genesis 6:14

“Build a large boat from cypress wood and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior.

Noah had to fight his every practical advice and decided to build the ark. The advice came from his community and also from his inner voice. Bu Noah put this aside and decided to listen to God. It was faith that helped him to carry out the instructions. And this faith comes from hearing the Word of God continuously.

How do we give in to God's Word? By faith.... and faith comes by listening to more and more of God's Word. Noah did this through the 10+ years he took to build the ark.... inspite of his neighbors and community questioning his decision through this very time.

Verse: Hebrews 11:7

It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith.

And Noah not only heard from God, but spoke to people warning them to obey God. Noah spoke openly inspite of people's opinion of the whole message

Verse: 2 Peter 2:5

And God did not spare the ancient world—except for Noah and the seven others in his family. Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment. So God protected Noah when he destroyed the world of ungodly people with a vast flood.

Choosing 8 year old

Verse: 2 Chronicles 34:1

Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years.

Josiah was a the king who was prophesied earlier. And probably the expectation of the people was the Josiah who would be the powerful king. But he was only 8 years old when he started. But during his reign, he restored the temple.... he restored the passover. And how did this come about..... it was the discovery of the Word of God during the restoration of the temple. The Message/Word of God that was discovered was taken seriously.

Cross

Jesus was born in a time when the Israelites were under the oppression of the Roman Empire. Israel was waiting for it's Messiah to deliver them. The expectation was probably a military leader. But God came to us in the most lowly form

Verse: Matthew 1:23

“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”

Verse: Luke 2:7

She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.

God put away his glory and was born in a stable. There was nothing about him of pomp and glory.... and finally he was led to the Cross to be crucified..... as a lamb that is slaughtered.

Conclusion

It is the foolishness of God that triumphs....It was the foolishness of the Cross that brought our salvation. Only if we understood the fullness of this foolishness ..... it would change us as Jesus changed the World!!!
