 Going to the other side

We all like our comfortable lives. But how long can we go on with our comfortable lives? Our  lives are fulfilled, not in comfort, but achieving something. And achieving what God wants us to achieve requires that we move out of our comfortable place and cross over to the other side.

Verse: Mark 4:35

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”

This crossover required going to the other side of the lake, with the danger of a storm. But they had Jesus. How do we ensure that Jesus is with us for this crossover

  1. Leave the rest

  2. Go through the Storm

  3. Reaching our purpose

Leave the rest

Verse: Mark 4:36

36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him

The disciples left the rest of the crowd and they took Jesus along. We often wait in situations with no direction. But God wants us to take our step with Jesus.

Verse: Deuteronomy 1:8

8 See, I have given you this land. Go in and take possession of the land the Lord swore he would give to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob—and to their descendants after them.”

And God puts that desire (land) in your heart. What we need to do is to take that step into the desires God placed in our hearts. That step should translate into action. The children of Israel hesitated because of fear

Verse: Deuteronomy 1:21

21 See, the Lord your God has given you the land. Go up and take possession of it as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, told you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

God is asking us to take the step in faith. Move away from the rest of the crowd even though they mock you. And God is asking us to put fear away.

Going through the Storm

When you decide to move into our purpose, remember there is a storm.

Verse: Mark 4:37,38

37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

If your life doesn’t have storms, then there is something wrong….. It means you are wasting your potential/opportunity. Decide to move to your purpose even though there is a storm…. Decide to take a hold of it even though the journey is straining.

Verse: Philippians 3:13

13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,

Please note that God has a plan through the storm as he did in Job’s life. It felt that God was absent…. But God’s purpose was for Job to come forth as gold

Verse: Job 23:8

8 “But if I go to the east, he is not there; if I go to the west, I do not find him.

9 When he is at work in the north, I do not see him; when he turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of him.

10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.

Reaching our purpose

Verse: Mark 5:1

1 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes

The disciples didn’t understand why they were at Gerasenes…. a place where people tended pigs (unclean animals). But when the man with unclean spirit was delivered, then the purpose became clear to them. Life is like that…. Our purpose may not be clear as we take our first few steps. But when the purpose is achieved, it will amaze us.  Give God the control while you take your steps of faith, and the promise of abundant life will be a reality to you.
