SundaySermon - Prince - Wild Vine

Wild Vine

Verse: Isaiah 5:1‭-‬2

1 Now I will sing for the one I love a song about his vineyard: My beloved had a vineyard on a rich and fertile hill.

2 He plowed the land, cleared its stones, and planted it with the best vines. In the middle he built a watchtower and carved a winepress in the nearby rocks. Then he waited for a harvest of sweet grapes, but the grapes that grew were bitter.

God was expecting the fruit of his labour. But the fruit that came out of His effort was wild fruit.

What does wild fruit mean? It is a worthless fruit. It has no economic value.

Untamed passion - Carefree living - Living carelessly - Following your heart's desire without any checks with the Word of God

Verse: Jeremiah 2:21

21 But I was the one who planted you, choosing a vine of the purest stock—the very best. How did you grow into this corrupt wild vine?

God is puzzled by the outcome. This thought is written out in the above verse "How did you grow into this corrupt wild wine?"

And in His sorrow, God makes a way to bring us back. Here are some points for our returning and bearing good fruit.

  1. Abiding (Remaining)
  2. Pruning
  3. Pure Word of God

1. Abiding (Remaining)

Verse: Isaiah 5:5

5 Now let me tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will tear down its hedges and let it be destroyed. I will break down its walls and let the animals trample it.

However the correction doesn't end with just removing the hedges and protection. God makes a way for restoration.

Verse: John 15:4

4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

Restoration is the call to remain with Jesus. The act of remaining requires that you stay in peace

Verse: Isaiah 30:15

15 This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.

We are not naturally inclined to rest. We just strive to enter the rest God has arranged for us.

Verse: Hebrews 4:11

11 So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.

2. Pruning

There are things that God cuts off from our lives and there are things that we need to cut off.

Josiah decided to do his part in pruning

Verse: 2 Chronicles 34:4

4 He ordered that the altars of Baal be demolished and that the incense altars which stood above them be broken down. He also made sure that the Asherah poles, the carved idols, and the cast images were smashed and scattered over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

God decides to His part - It is not pleasant but it is good for us..... He prunes us through sufferning

Verse: Isaiah 48:10

10 I have refined you, but not as silver is refined. Rather, I have refined you in the furnace of suffering.

3. Pure Word of God

Verse: Jeremiah 2:21

21 But I was the one who planted you, choosing a vine of the purest stock—the very best. How did you grow into this corrupt wild vine?

Pure or impurity would suggest the deception that is mixed with the Word of God. It is important to understand the pure so you can test what you hear

Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:21

21  but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.
