SundaySermon - Geoffery - God calling your name twice

 God calling your name twice

We long to hear from God. We need to make decision at crossroads and we want to be sure that we are making the right decisions. Here are some of the ways that God speaks to us.

  1. A Sermon or Message
  2. A Spiritual Friend
  3. A Spiritual Book
  4. Through successes in life
  5. Through Failures in life
  6. Through Dreams
  7. Through Recurring Themes
  8. A verse/verses in the Bible
  9. Restless Spirit

God has reached out to people in the past and he called some people twice. There are 7 people that God calls twice

Abraham

Lesson: Give God first priority

God is calling him to do a difficult task - Genesis 22 - He was to sacrifice his son Issac. But God's real intention was to test Abraham loyalty.

The sacrifice didn't happen but when God sacrificed Jesus, it went through. There is a parallel we can draw from this incident.

The lesson we can learn from this that God is close to us when are being tested

Jacob

Lesson: Do not be afraid

Verse: Genesis 46:2

2 During the night God spoke to him in a vision. “Jacob! Jacob!” he called. “Here I am,” Jacob replied.

God when he called Jacob, wanted to re-assure him in his uncertainty. He was to go down to Egypt to Joseph. He has not seen Joseph for long time and he was assumed to be dead.

But God is telling us to Fear Not

Moses

Lesson: Sees the suffering condition

Verse: Exodus 3:4

4 When the Lord saw Moses coming to take a closer look, God called to him from the middle of the bush, “Moses! Moses!” “Here I am!” Moses replied.

God in this passage drew Moses to the mountain because of the fire in a bush. God called Moses to deliver the people from the suffering of slavery. God is seeing the poor condition of the people around you. And God has put you in their midst to bring hope to their condition

Samuel

Lesson: Demonstrate listening to God

Verse: 1 Samuel 3:10

10 And the Lord came and called as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.”

This call came at a time when the prophecies were rare. It was because God stopped speaking. But people stop listening. And Samuel was set up to listen to God and he responded saying, "Speak Lord for your servant is listening".

We need to stop.... pause... in the midst our busy schedule. We need to tune into God and wait.... We will hear God and recognize his Voice.

Verse: Job 33:14

14 For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it.

How much time do we spend on meditating on the Word of God?

Martha

Lesson: Prioritize intimacy with God

Verse: Luke 10:41

41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details!

Martha had a lot of things to take care of.... there were guests at home. But Jesus called to her.... What Jesus was saying was - Prioritize God in your life.

God is calling us so that we can be transformed people who will have the right priorities in Life.

Simon

Lesson: Beware of temptation

Verse: Luke 22:31

31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat.

We as Christians are susceptible to falling. And God is calling us to be watchful in prayer against Temptation. The way we can be watchful is spend time in prayer and reading the word and avoid compromising situation.

Saul

Lesson: Do not resist God's Will

Verse: Acts 26:14

14 We all fell down, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is useless for you to fight against my will.’

It is useless to fight God's will. God's call in Saul's life helped him yield. Don't be stubborn... submit to God

Verse: Proverbs 15:10

10 Whoever abandons the right path will be severely disciplined; whoever hates correction will die.
