Deliver us
Verse: Matthew 6:13
13 “And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.”
Jesus delivers us from eternal death… from the evil one.
God delivers Israel
One of the mightiest deliverance in the Old Testament happened in Exodus. God heard the cries of the Israelites under slavery. And God made a way and chose Moses and pulled him out of the River Nile (death) to accomplish the deliverance for the nation Israel.
Do you know God as The Deliverer?
Verse: Exodus 6:6-7
6 ““Therefore, say to the people of Israel: ‘I am the Lord. I will free you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgment.”
7 “I will claim you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God who has freed you from your oppression in Egypt.”
The people of Israel were however not ready to know God as The Deliver. They refused God because of their situation.
Verse: Exodus 6:9
9 “So Moses told the people of Israel what the Lord had said, but they refused to listen anymore. They had become too discouraged by the brutality of their slavery.”
Jesus delivering the demon possessed man
This man was tortured by 6000 demons. And Jesus delivered him and yet the people of the city could not accept him.
Verse: Mark 5:15
15 “A crowd soon gathered around Jesus, and they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons. He was sitting there fully clothed and perfectly sane, and they were all afraid.”
Three pointers
- Deliverance from the Evil One.
- Deliverance from Evil
- Deliverance from Present Evil Age
Deliverance from the Evil One
Verse: 1 Peter 5:8
8 “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”
The Evil one is not interested in anything else other than your soul. Your soul is of utmost value. And so the Evil One comes with the force of.a lion.
Verse: Exodus 14:9
9 “The Egyptians chased after them with all the forces in Pharaoh’s army—all his horses and chariots, his charioteers, and his troops. The Egyptians caught up with the people of Israel as they were camped beside the shore near Pi-hahiroth, across from Baal-zephon.”
But God responds with a force that is greater…. to deliver us
Verse: Exodus 15:3,7
3 “The Lord is a warrior; Yahweh is his name”
7 “In the greatness of your majesty, you overthrow those who rise against you. You unleash your blazing fury; it consumes them like straw.”
Deliverance from Evil
Evil is defined as pressed and harassed by Life
Verse: 1 Peter 4:12
12 “Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you.”
But God is our deliverer
Verse: 1 Peter 5:10
10 “In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.”
Deliverance from Present Evil Age
Verse: Galatians 1:4
4 “Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live.”
Lot was in the land of Sodom and was disgusted by the sin around. Perhaps we would think that God placed Lot in Sodom to change Sodom. But God took him out of the city and the destruction.
In this present time, we are surrounded by people in our environment. Perhaps some of them will be saved through us and sometimes God may take us out of that situation.
Let us pray that God will deliver us
“Yes, and the Lord will deliver me from every evil attack and will bring me safely into his heavenly Kingdom. All glory to God forever and ever! Amen.” ….2 Timothy 4:18
