SundaySermon - Prince - The Scarlet Thread

The Scarlet Thread

Verse: Genesis 38:28

[28] While she was in labor, one of the babies reached out his hand. The midwife grabbed it and tied a scarlet string around the child’s wrist, announcing, “This one came out first.”

Tamar was desparate to have children. And she resorted to deception. This deception probably painted a negative picture for the family. Judah (who was the father) was exposed. Tamar almost got stoned. And probably no one wanted to be associated with them.

Tie the Scarlet Thread

In the midst of this ostracization, there was an un-named woman who was a mid-wife. And as the child was being born, she bound the scarlet thread to the baby. The scarlet thread can be compared to the Blood of Jesus. This scarlet thread removed the shame of sin and the child was born into a world of forgiveness.

What does the Blood of Jesus speak? It speaks of forgiveness instead of vengence and death.

Verse: ‭Hebrews 12:24

[24] You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel.

The scarlet thread was also tied to the house of Rahab. This scarlet thread stopped any soldier demanding death. This scarlet thread provided protection and redemption.

Verse: Isaiah 1:18

[18] “Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.

Can we tie the scarlet thread over our families? Our children need to be covered by the blood of Jesus. We need to be intentional about this.

This is not only for parents. We can pray for each other because there were several un-named people that God used.

  • The unnamed slave girl lead Namaan to a healing
  • The unnamed woman saved a city from destruction and gave over shechem

Name it (Envision it)

The un-named woman (the midwife) named the twins

  • Perez - Breakthrough
  • Zerah - Glowing, Dawn, Life

In the midst of shame, she spoke life over the children. She stopped words of shame. Infact she called shame on the words of shame.

We need to bless our children. We need to speak the Word of Blessing on our children.

God requires that you name and bless. God brought different animals to Adam. Adam named them and that was what it was.

Naming can be seen as defining and establishing a vision. What is your vision for your family. You need to envision for yourself, home because "without vision, people perish." (Proverbs 29:18)

It was critical for Abram to be changed to Abraham. This change of name caused for the emergence of the "Father of many Nations" (Genesis 17:5)

Experience God's Blessing

This change from speaking blessing brought a true breakthrough and dawning of new life. The blessing was always associated with Tamar.

Verse: ‭Ruth 4:12

[12] And may the Lord give you descendants by this young woman who will be like those of our ancestor Perez, the son of Tamar and Judah.”

And Shame was replaced with Royality because the line of David came through Tamar.

Conclusion

This started because of one un-named woman.... Let us pray to be God's instrument to cause a blessing
