Seek, Pray Reach BEYOND - Ephesians 3:20-21

The theme of the year is that as a church, we will together

  • Seek BEYOND
  • Pray BEYOND
  • Reach BEYOND

Seek BEYOND

PASSAGE: Exodus 33

In this passage, we know that the people of Israel were delivered from Egypt. And even after this salvation, they decided to make a calf in worship. And this sin brought God to place of loathing that he promised that he would not go with them again.

The norm of the day was God would meet them in the Tabernacle Tent. But because of the sin, Moses made a Tent of Meeting so that he could go and meet with God. And all the people who sought God went along

Verse: Exodus 33:7

7 Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far off from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And everyone who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting, which was outside the camp.

And off all the people who sought the Lord, there is a Joshua who is specially mentioned here. The people who saw God deliver the 10 commandments were terrified by the presence of God. But not Joshua..... he would not depart from the tent.

Verse: Exodus 33:11

11 Thus the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.

Joshua was the next leader for Israel. God saw the desparation in his heart and heard his prayer. And the Lord does not despise desparate seeker's prayer

Verse: Psalm 102:17

17 he regards the prayer of the destitute and does not despise their prayer.

Verse: Jeremiah 29:13

13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

Pray BEYOND

Joshua prayed and he was heard by God. And he prayed on behalf of the people in a moment of desparation. The enemies of Israel came against Israel

Verse: Joshua 10:12-13

12 At that time Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, stand still at Gibeon, and moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”

13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies.

This is the most unusual and impossible prayer that was made. But God listened to him to make sure that their victory was complete.

Are we ready to make desparate prayers? We need to pray for our families, friends, acquaintances, our city, our country. We need for them to know Jesus.

The prophets of old prayed for God to reveal himself. Isaiah prayed with desparation

Verse: Isaiah 64:1

Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains might quake at your presence

Daniel made this prayer in Daniel 9. His desparate prayer was answered by Gabriel in a swift flight (Daniel 9:21)

Reach BEYOND

Our seeking and prayer needs action as well. Caleb was one such person who acted on God's direction. While other people were afraid, Caleb went ahead boldly

Verse: Joshua 21:11-12

11 They gave them Kiriath-arba (Arba being the father of Anak), that is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, along with the pasturelands around it.

12 But the fields of the city and its villages had been given to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as his possession.

Reach BEYOND does not mean that there were no setbacks. But reaching BEYOND does mean resilience.

Verse: Proverbs 24:16

for the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.

Conclusion

Let us seek God through this year. Seek, Pray and Reach BEYOND
