 Go BEYOND as Jesus did

How did Jesus go beyond? We need to understand how Jesus lived his life and we follow his ways. Jesus becomes our ultimate model

Verse: 1 John 4:17

17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world.

We will look at three areas of Jesus and try to model our lives

  • What did Jesus seek?
  • How did Jesus Pray
  • How did Jesus Reach?

What did Jesus seek?

Jesus sought

  • The Lost
  • True worshipers
  • Will of the Father

Jesus sought the Lost

Jesus had all the angels at his disposal. He could have commanded the angels to do the searching. But Jesus did the searching himself.

Verse: Luke 19:9-10

9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham.

10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

And so the the answer this question is .... "To seek and save the lost". And Jesus did this himself. The world today is lost and they need the Church to seek out these people. This verse describes the condition of the people of the world

Verse: Isaiah 59:10

10 We grope for the wall like the blind; we grope like those who have no eyes; we stumble at noon as in the twilight, among those in full vigor we are like dead men

And if Jesus understood the condition and went after the lost himself. He was the shepherd who went after the lost sheep.

Verse: Matthew 18:14

14 So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.

Let us ask for the heart of Jesus. We need to get desparate to save all people from perishing.

Jesus sought true worshipers

Verse: 1 Samuel 4:23

23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.

Jesus sought the will of the father

Verse: John 5:30

30 By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.

Our plans for our lives are laid out. We need to find out the will of God for us and walk according to his will.

How did Jesus Pray

Jesus prayed inspite of people disrupting his schedule. He still found time.

Verse: Luke 5:15

15 But now even more the report about him went abroad, and great crowds gathered to hear him and to be healed of their infirmities.

16 But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.

And Jesus' prayers were desparate

Verse: Hebrews 5:7

7 During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission.

Here is a prayer that Jesus made in John 17

Verse: John 17:11

11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

Jesus is praying our our safety and that we will be one with God

Jesus is calling us to pray

Verse: Matthew 7:40

40 And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour?

41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation.

So let us respond to the call to model Jesus and pray

How did Jesus reach?

Jesus went reached out to people in the grave

Verse: Mark 5:15

15 And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed[c] man, the one who had had the legion, sitting there, clothed and in his right mind, and they were afraid.

Jesus reached out to cloth the man with demons. The other people who belonged to that region begged Jesus to leave. And so Jesus went across the lake for this one person. Jesus did the same for us. He reached out to cloth us with righteousness. He goes all the way even it meant to save only one person.

Again the woman at the well encounter was because Jesus purposed in his heart to go through a region that Jews would normally not go.

Verse: John 4:4

4 And he had to pass through Samaria

Let us model Jesus and go beyond to reach people who are not like us.

 Conclusion

David was able to model God so much so that He was called a "man after His own heart"

Verse: 1 Samuel 13:14

.... the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart...

Let us be the people after God's own heart.
