SundaySermon - Prince - Kings and Priests

 Kings and Priests

There position of the King and Priest is never bestowed on two different people. But we do have exception - Melchizedek, Jesus and the Church

Verse: 1 Peter 2:9

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

God instituted the King and Priest and that is his design. When man lost his dominion the garden of Eden, God wants to restore this with the people of Israel

Verse: Exodus 19:6

And you will be my kingdom of priests, my holy nation.’ This is the message you must give to the people of Israel.”

Role of the King

The king is associated with royalty. And God has bestowed this royalty on us. This special privilege is for you to

  • Rule
  • Do what is right
  • Rule by leading and influencing

Rule

The kings must rise to the occasion over disorder and rule. Disorder can ruin the kingdom. And the threat to your rule is sin.

Verse: Genesis 4:7

You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”

If God made you the King, all you need to do is to give the command and rule over the sin

Do what is right

Doing what is right is righteous living. This is a choice you need to make.

Verse: Romans 6:16

Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.

And that choice to do the right thing is in the face of injustice, or oppression. And when we do this, we are able to make a change to our community.

Verse: Proverbs 21:3

The Lord is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we offer him sacrifices.

Rule by leading and influencing

Every person has people in the circle of his influence.

Verse: Hebrews 13:17

Obey your spiritual leaders, and do what they say. Their work is to watch over your souls, and they are accountable to God. Give them reason to do this with joy and not with sorrow. That would certainly not be for your benefit.

As leaders in our circle how are we to lead? .... by being humble and thinking of others better

Verse: Philippians 2:3

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.

This approach with others will make our influence stronger.

Role of the Priest

What does a priest do? What is the privilege of teth priest?

  • Access to the presence
  • Stand in the presence

Access

The priest can enter into the presence of God to beg for mercy.

Verse: Hebrews 4:16

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Now we don't have an in-between to approach God. Our plea of mercy has no delays because the access to given us

Stand in the presence

The privilege of standing in the beauty of the presence of God is bestowed on us

Verse: 2 Chronicles 29:11

My sons, do not neglect your duties any longer! The Lord has chosen you to stand in his presence, to minister to him, and to lead the people in worship and present offerings to him.”

Sometimes we stand amazed by nature or the night sky. The presence of God is far more captivating and we are called to stand in his presence

Conclusion

What does it cost to be that King and Priest? Well Jesus Christ paid that price. You have been bestowed to be that "Kingdom of Priests"
