Verse: Song of Songs 6:1-3
1 Where has your lover gone, O woman of rare beauty? Which way did he turn so we can help you find him?
2 My lover has gone down to his garden, to his spice beds, to browse in the gardens and gather the lilies.
3 I am my lover’s, and my lover is mine. He browses among the lilies.
God displays his deep love towards his people. When two people are in love, there is a celebrate each other. This book is a celebration of love where God and his people celebrate each other.
God is looking for all of us to come to place where there is a celebration. A celebration that is verbalised in the voice of
- Voice of the Shepherd King
- Voice of Shunammite woman
The love of the Shepherd King
Song of Songs 2:8
8 Ah, I hear my lover coming! He is leaping over the mountains, bounding over the hills.
This is picture of the shepherd king corresponds with Jesus coming over mountain to enter Jerusalem. The entry into Jerusalem was one that was prophesied along with other prophesies of people rejecting God's love.
When Jesus calls out to you as his precious treasure, we often reject this love. We call ourselves unworthy, sinful etc.....
Jesus takes delight you and here is what he has to say
How beautiful you are, my darling, how beautiful! Your eyes are like doves. .... Song of Songs 1:15
You have captured my heart, my treasure, my bride. You hold it hostage with one glance of your eyes, with a single jewel of your necklace. .... Song of Songs 4:9
You and I have captured God's heart
The response of the Shunammite woman which is often how we respond
I am dark but beautiful, O women of Jerusalem— dark as the tents of Kedar, dark as the curtains of Solomon’s tents. .... Song of Songs 1:5
Communion with God
He escorts me to the banquet hall; it’s obvious how much he loves me. .... Song of Songs 2:4
The servant attitude is always trying to please the master. It is a one way effort. The lover on the other hand, is all about worshiping the other and taking delight in the companionship. Hence the banqueting
The worship is displayed
The king is lying on his couch, enchanted by the fragrance of my perfume. .... Song of Songs 1:12
And Mary was a worshiper
Then Mary took a twelve-ounce jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard, and she anointed Jesus’ feet with it, wiping his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance. .... John 12:3
How do we respond?
But I responded, “I have taken off my robe. Should I get dressed again? I have washed my feet. Should I get them soiled?” ... Song of Songs 5:3
Are we giving excuses to God's love. Jesus is knocking at our door continuously
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. ... Revelation 3:20
Let us open the door to Jesus and worship him. Let us testify of his goodness like the Shunammite Woman
Verse: Song of Songs 5:10-16
10 My lover is dark and dazzling, better than ten thousand others!
11 His head is finest gold, his wavy hair is black as a raven.
12 His eyes sparkle like doves beside springs of water; they are set like jewels washed in milk.
13 His arms are like rounded bars of gold, set with beryl. His body is like bright ivory, glowing with lapis lazuli.
13 His cheeks are like gardens of spices giving off fragrance. His lips are like lilies, perfumed with myrrh.
14 His legs are like marble pillars set in sockets of finest gold. His posture is stately, like the noble cedars of Lebanon.
15 His mouth is sweetness itself; he is desirable in every way. Such, O women of Jerusalem, is my lover, my friend.
