 Walking in Righteousness

God is the author of all moral values. And God is calling us to live worthy of the His calling on your life.

Verse: Ephesians 4:1

1 Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.

"Lead a life" can be likened to walking..... walking through life. And this walking must be in righteousness.

Our walk (conduct) is covered under the following

  • Personal conduct
  • Conduct at home
  • Conduct in the Marketplace

Personal Conduct

Personal conduct have different aspects.... some of them are

  • Deception
  • Anger
  • Corrupt talk
  • Sexual immorality

Verse: Ephesians 4:22

22 throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.

Deception (manipulative behaviour)  intends to have a show of righteousness. But the intent which is not seen is evil. And since no one can sees our intent.... it is important to be care of our personal conduct.

Verse: Ephesians 4:26

26 And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry,

Personal conduct should take care of our anger within our lives. We need to be slow to anger reflecting the nature of God.

Verse: Ephesians 4:29

29 Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.

We speak a lot of words on a daily basis. We need to stop corrupt talk. Because you will be judged for every word.

Verse: Matthew 12:36

36 And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak.

Gossip is included in corrupt talk. Gossip destroys the friends and the people around us.

Filthy Language is included corrupt talk.

Verse: Ephesians 5:4

4 Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.

Sexual conduct needs to align with God's Word

Verse: Ephesians 5:5

5 You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.

Conduct at Home

Home represents our family. Our conduct toward our family needs to be inline with the Word of God.

Verse: Ephesians 5:22‭, ‬25

22 For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord.

25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her

God has called husbands and wives to different roles to nurture the family. Our conduct should be guided by

Verse: Ephesians 5:33

33 So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

The home includes children. The Bible tells us how we need to conduct ourselves with children in mind.

Verse: Ephesians 6:1, 4

1 Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do.

4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.

Conduct in the Marketplace

Verse: Ephesians 6:5‭-‬6

5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.

6 Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart.

In our conduct at workplace, we need to be true to God by working hard. We work as if we are working unto the Lord. So it does not matter whether you are noticed. Be true and work hard.

Verse: Ephesians 6:9

9 Masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Don’t threaten them; remember, you both have the same Master in heaven, and he has no favorites.

And if we are in position with people who report to us.... we need to fair in our treatment of different people under us.

Conclusion

Solomon had the position of royalty. He was the King. But he messed up

Verse: 1 Kings 11:6

6 In this way, Solomon did what was evil in the Lord’s sight; he refused to follow the Lord completely, as his father, David, had done.

We also have position of royalty like Solomon. We are seated with Christ. And what did God decide for Solomon

Verse: 1 Kings 11:11

11 So now the Lord said to him, “Since you have not kept my covenant and have disobeyed my decrees, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your servants.

Our walk (our lives) needs to reflect the righteousness of God. We who are living have the chance to align ourselves. Let us walk in righteousness
