Fourth Vision
Zechariah saw visions in the context of the return of the people from Babylon. The were going back to their land to rebuild it from its desolate condition. And God was asking people to return with their hearts as well.
Verse: Zechariah 1:3
3 “Therefore, say to the people, ‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.’”
Three pointers from the fourth vision.
- Accusation
- God blesses but the devil curses.
- Salvation
Accusation
The fourth vision that Zechariah in the chapter 3. The return was a joyful event however there were people who were not happy. There were accusation from the past to dampen your spirit.
Verse: Zechariah 3:1
1 “Then the angel showed me Jeshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord. The Accuser, Satan, was there at the angel’s right hand, making accusations against Jeshua.”
And the valid accusation were set aside because God took it on himself. The same was done for the woman caught in the act of adultery. The accusation warranted death of the woman. But Jesus took this sin and there was no one to accuse her anymore.
Verse: John 8:10
10 “Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?””
We need to accept his forgiveness because it is all taken on the cross
Verse: Colossians 2:14
14 “He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.”
God blesses but the devil curses
In the middle of this accusation, God chooses to bless and remove you the consequences of sin (death and fire)
Verse: Zechariah 3:2
2 “And the Lord said to Satan, “I, the Lord, reject your accusations, Satan. Yes, the Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebukes you. This man is like a burning stick that has been snatched from the fire.””
Here God declares that you have been snatched from the fire.. We can choose to listen the voice of God …. the voice of blessing.
David, in his duel with Goliath had to also deal with curses…. Words ….. from Goliath. But David ignored this and spoke God’s Word.
Verse: 1 Samuel 17:45
45 “David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”
Salvation
The return of Israel means more than a return from Babylon to Judah. The return means saving of your soul from the fire of death.
The path of return is the cross.
Verse: Zechariah 3:8
8 ““Listen to me, O Jeshua the high priest, and all you other priests. You are symbols of things to come. Soon I am going to bring my servant, the Branch.”
The Branch refers to Jesus and Jesus will remove your filth and replace it with clean cloths.
Verse: Zechariah 3:4
4 “So the angel said to the others standing there, “Take off his filthy clothes.” And turning to Jeshua he said, “See, I have taken away your sins, and now I am giving you these fine new clothes.””
Bathsheba was violated by King David, she lost her child,…. went through shame but her return was one of honour. The king rose and bowed to show her honour.
Verse: 1 Kings 2:19
19 “So Bathsheba went to King Solomon to speak on Adonijah’s behalf. The king rose from his throne to meet her, and he bowed down before her. When he sat down on his throne again, the king ordered that a throne be brought for his mother, and she sat at his right hand.”
Bathsheba had her dignity restored. Jesus is doing the same for us…. bring us up and seating us with Him… the seat of honour!!!
