 Not by might, not by power…

There are moments when you are weak…. You don’t see a way through…. Or perhaps you have lost the vision. Zerubbabel was faced with troubles and he was discouraged. And this is what the Lord said.

Verse: Zechariah 4:6-7

6 “Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. 

7 Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel’s way; it will become a level plain before him! And when Zerubbabel sets the final stone of the Temple in place, the people will shout: ‘May God bless it! May God bless it!’””

Theses words come after the imagery presented in the beginning of the chapter 4. There are three things mentioned in this vision (imagery) - Tree, bowls and lampstand

These three objects can be translated to 

  • Stay connected to the source
  • Stay connected to the right people
  • Mountain becomes level ground



Stay connected to the source

We are people and we don’t have unending resources. Hence it is important to replenish this. Our source of strength should come from the Lord - the strength of His Spirit.

This engaging of this source (God) transforms us into the image of the source.

Verse: 2 Corinthians 3:18

18 “So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.”

This change of image comes naturally. There are times when we try to conform to God’s image of holiness. And the more we try, we fail miserably. But we need to direct our focus to engage and draw from God…. then the change will come naturally.

Here is what God is calling each one of us.

Verse: Isaiah 60:1-3

1 ““Arise, Jerusalem! Let your light shine for all to see. For the glory of the Lord rises to shine on you. 

2 Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, but the glory of the Lord rises and appears over you. 

3 All nations will come to your light; mighty kings will come to see your radiance.”

God is asking us to arise because of the glory of the Lord that is shining on you. This rising up and shining of the light will draw nations…. 

Are we ready to tap into the source? Be careful of anything that will stop the source of strength. There are some block

  • Mind blocks
  • Emotional blocks

Mind blocks

What is our mind captivated by?

Verse: Romans 8:5

5 “Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.”

Emotional Blocks

Our desires are attached to our emotions. So it important to check emotions

Verse: Galatians 5:19

19 “When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,”

Stay connected to the‬ right people‬

The chapter 4 has a reference to anointed ones. And there is flowing of the oil through this route/channels

Verse: Zechariah 4:14

14 “Then he said to me, “They represent the two anointed ones who stand in the court of the Lord of all the earth.””

Hence it is important to stay connected with the right people who can guide us. It may be possible to get ahead doing it on your own…. but it will be a lot easier if someone guides you. That is why we have teachers, mentors etc.

Mountains becomes level ground

When you are connected to God and the right people to encourage you, your obstacles become level ground.

Most often, when faced with troubles, we glorify the problem. And our problems go from a small problem into a mountain. But we need to glorify God who gives us strength. Look at how Jesus and Holy Spirit glorify the Father

Verse: John 16:14

14 “He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.”

Let us glorify God who is the source of our strength. And the light of our radiance will bring nations to you. That radiance is - JESUS

Morality Standards A picture is painted of a potter fashioning clay to his liking. And this animated picture brings life to the clay, with the clay protesting the Potters's design. This surprised Potter asks "Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?" Jeremiah 18:5 NIV It seems completely reasonable and moral that the Potter is allowed to shape the clay to his design and liking. Conversely it is unreasonable and immoral for the clay to protest the Potter's design.   "You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay!"
