Return to me
The book of Zechariah was written in a time when God was calling the people of Israel to come back from exile.
Verse: Zechariah 1:3
3 “Therefore, say to the people, ‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.’”
The return brought around 50K people back to Israel. They wanted to build the temple to worship God but the little opposition they faced, they dropped their plan. So the temple work was halted for 20 years
And God gave Zechariah visions to encourage the people to get back to building the Temple.
First Vision
Verse: Zechariah 1:11
11 “Then the other riders reported to the angel of the Lord, who was standing among the myrtle trees, “We have been patrolling the earth, and the whole earth is at peace.””
The vision he saw that the temple was in ruins and there was no move to rebuild it. God rose to fight for his people
Verse: Zechariah 1:14
14 “Then the angel said to me, “Shout this message for all to hear: ‘This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says: My love for Jerusalem and Mount Zion is passionate and strong.”
Second Vision
The people of Israel were oppressed…. The oppression in the vision is shown as horns….
Verse: Zechariah 1:21
21 ““What are these men coming to do?” I asked. The angel replied, “These four horns—these nations—scattered and humbled Judah. Now these blacksmiths have come to terrify those nations and throw them down and destroy them.””
There were four horns…. It’s like every direction you turn to, you are faced with oppression.
The only way to deal with this oppression is the restoration of the temple…. And the temple signifies praise. Let us raise our voices to praise the Lord.
Third Vision
The angel was designated to measure Jerusalem. The measurement was for the plan to build a wall… the wall of fire.
Verse: Zechariah 2:5
5 “Then I, myself, will be a protective wall of fire around Jerusalem, says the Lord. And I will be the glory inside the city!’””
The wall is built to resist the infiltration of the enemy. The enemy may try but if the wall is built well, it will secure the people living inside. The infiltration of the enemy could be attacks from our friends and colleagues.
Job was protected and none of his friends could touch him until the testing time began. Job attack was from his own friends.
But depend on God who will be that Wall of Fire.
