Bread

Bread in the Bible would signify the nourishment for the soul. And this nourishment is received on a day to day basis. 

Verse: Matthew 6:11

11 “Give us today the food we need,”

Three pointers

  1. Bread of Life
  2. Bread of the Word
  3. Bread of Presence

Bread of Life

Our body, soul and spirit are built with desires and longings. And only Jesus can satisfy our every need. Because Jesus is the Bread…. The Bread that gives life.

Verse: John 6:35

35 “Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

If we fill our desires with anything other than God, we will soon run dry, go hungry!!! And we are miserable!!! 

Jesus is the solution to our emptiness!!! How do we get filled up with Jesus…. it is the Word

Verse: Matthew 4:4

4 “But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ””

Bread of the Word

The divine is the ingredient to nourishing the soul. And this bread will need to be gathered. 

Verse: ‭‭John‬ ‭6‬:‭48‬-‭50‬ 

48 “Yes, I am the bread of life! 

49 Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. 

50 Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die.”

The Israelites gathered food (manna) everyday. This gathering required some work.

Verse: Numbers 11:8

8 “The people would go out and gather it from the ground. They made flour by grinding it with hand mills or pounding it in mortars. Then they boiled it in a pot and made it into flat cakes. These cakes tasted like pastries baked with olive oil.”

‭‭The daily gathering and the final preparation would signify that we need to search the Word of God for ourselves. The Bible puts it this way…. MEDITATE on  the Word of God.

Verse: Psalm 1:2

2 “But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.”

Let us be diligent in the learning the Word of God before the day of famine comes

Verse: Amos 8:11

11 ““The time is surely coming,” says the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread or water but of hearing the words of the Lord.”

We must learn to draw from the Word of God all the aspects of spiritual nourishment.

Verse: Revelation 10:10

10 “So I took the small scroll from the hand of the angel, and I ate it! It was sweet in my mouth, but when I swallowed it, it turned sour in my stomach.”

Bread of Presence

The Bread of Presence - Show Bread - The Bread of Intimacy.

Verse: Exodus 25:30

25 “Place the Bread of the Presence on the table to remain before me at all times.”

This bread was placed in the temple where God dwells. And God wants to dine with us ….the ones who are the closest to him ….the disciples ….and we are all his disciples.

Verse: Luke 22:14

14 “When the time came, Jesus and the apostles sat down together at the table.”

The last supper was the time when Jesus wanted to just spend it with his disciples….knowing that his time was short. And remember Jesus is looking forward to having this supper with all of us when we see him face to face. This is a longing for intimacy!!! Respond to Jesus and find your need for intimacy being satisfied!!!

Kill the Babies!!!

Morality Standards A picture is painted of a potter fashioning clay to his liking. And this animated picture brings life to the clay, with the clay protesting the Potters's design. This surprised Potter asks "Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?" Jeremiah 18:5 NIV It seems completely reasonable and moral that the Potter is allowed to shape the clay to his design and liking. Conversely it is unreasonable and immoral for the clay to protest the Potter's design.   "You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay!" Isaiah 29:16 NIV And yet, we continue in our unreasonability and turn things upside down. Why does mere clay (or humankind), protest the Potter (or God) on morality.
