God of the impossible

Mighty power of God to do impossible things

Verse: Luke 1:37

37 For the word of God will never fail

To understand the God of the impossible, we need to know two aspects -

  • The Work of God and
  • The Ways of God (Character)

Verse: Psalm 103:7

7 He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel.

There was a revelation that Moses had that the common people didn't receive. And let us try to understand what was revealed to Moses through

  • Genealogy of Jesus

Genealogy

The genealogy may be a bunch of names but there is something that we could learn.

Verse: Matthew 1:18

18 This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.

But before this big announcement there were 42 names. Of the many names there was a little boy David. His story is best known for the killing of Goliath. Goliath represents an impossible situation. An army trembled in front of Goliath.... but not David. His courage brought David to the limelight.

We all have our impossible situations to deal with. We have situations that may be from the outside. But the hardest of them is the one you have to face from within - addictions of various kinds.

How to be a giant killer?

Before David became a giant killer, he had to overcome the lion and the bear. Here is what he said to Saul

Verse: 1 Samuel 17:37

37 The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!”

There are certain characters associated with Lions and Bears. Lion are known for eating and bears are known for sleeping. We need to overcome these characteristics (of gluttony and laziness) that affect our life.

Verse: Ezekiel 16:49

49 Sodom’s sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door.

Godly parents and Ungodly children

The genealogy mentions Hezekiah and Manasseh

Verse: Matthew 1:10

10 Hezekiah was the father of Manasseh. Manasseh was the father of Amon. Amon was the father of Josiah

Hezekiah was a good king. Manasseh was an evil king. But God did not give us on them. God pursues them

Verse: 2 Chronicles 33:13

13 And when he prayed, the Lord listened to him and was moved by his request. So the Lord brought Manasseh back to Jerusalem and to his kingdom. Then Manasseh finally realized that the Lord alone is God

Blessing of Captivity

There were many people in the geneology who were faced hard times. They were at times in prison. When Judah went into captivity, the people of Israel were in captivity. But God was working to fulfill his Work.

Verse: Zechariah 9:12

12 Return to your fortress, you prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.

Hope makes tough times easy. The hope that God will bless twice over

Verse: Job 42:10

10 When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before!

Zechariah and Elizabeth

In the midst of the Christmas story, there is couple who was waiting for a child - Zechariah and Elizabeth. They were barren and didn't have any children

What is the purpose of Barreness? Often God uses Barreness to produce something of value. We know this because of the list of the barren women who had children who were used for a great purpose.

Mary

God chose Mary to be that virgin who gave birth to the savior. This is impossible! But Mary's stance of acceptance allowed for the impossible to happen in her life.

We need to accept God as Mary did and the Holy Spirit will help us.

Verse: John 14:26

26 But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

The Holy Spirit is given to those who are sealed in Jesus

Verse: Ephesians 1:13

13 And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own[a] by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.

Why is the Holy Spirit given to us? The Holy Spirit helps us through our difficult times. And difficult times bring out the best in us.

Verse: Hebrews 11:26

26 He thought it was better to suffer for the sake of Christ than to own the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking ahead to his great reward

Ways of God

The meeting of the Shepherd was late in the night. God met with Mose

Being a Shepherd meant that you have to be Faithfulness

Revelation

Verse: Revelation 17:14

14 They will make war on the Lamb and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is lord of lords and king of kings and those with him are called and chosen and faithful

Wisemen

They were rich in wealth, intellect and God is working in their life. The Star was a supernatural sign. To all those who are seeking him, the God of the impossible can draw us to him.
