 Jesus - The Image of God

Whe God made man, He said....  Let us create man in our image. This statement may not be fully understood and people have tried to create this image through various philosophies. Our discovery to see the God involves 

  • To know him
  • to become like him
  • to do the work of him
  • To bring honor and glory to him. 

Why are we constantly looking for God? Because God made us to be that image bearer of God. If we substitute God's image and rely on created image, it will bring our downfall.

Verse: Exodus 20:2-4

2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

3 “You shall have no other gods before[a] me.

4 “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below

We are desparate because we can't see God. But God's image can be seen because man is made in the image of God. Human beings are spirit beings having a temporary earthly existence.

If people would understand this, they would accept all people and they would worship God in spirit and truth. Our spirit connects with the Spirit of God when we worship God. So Jesus in his confrontation with the Samaritan woman said that true worship will be established and it will not be based on traditions. Traditions and human practices (idols) blind us. But worship clears our view to see God.

Worship (or that connection with God) is possible and this is delightful because our conscience is clear and cleaned. 

Verse:  Hebrews 9:14

14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death,[a] so that we may serve the living God!

 Man has always been looking for God. And in our effort, we create distorted image of God. This destroys our self image when we rely on distorted images (or idol). Hence let us be guided to see God and we will be at peace. 

What is this image of God? The image of God is not to be merely observed. There should be a connection so that this image affects your image, your thoughts and actions

Some of the distorted images of ourselves are .... self-centeredness .... guilt laded .... and all of this can mess up your direction in life.

How do we discover and experience this image of God? If God is Spirit, then we need to connect to God through our spirit. Our expectation to connect to God who is spirit, with physical means (idols) is foolishness. So Adam and Eve, even when they sinned, they did not lose the capacity to talk with God.

Hence if you have a distorted image of God, it is your idol. We need to discover God. Philip said show us the father. Jesus replied saying that those who have seen him, has seen the father. This was not clear to the disciples then. But the Holy Spirit was given to all of us to show us the way. 

Why was the Holy Spirit given to us?

  • To bring Jesus
  • To make me like Jesus
  • To do the work of Jesus
  • To prepare me for the second coming of God.
What is the key to begin the restoration the image of God in your life? Repentence.

Happy Men's Day!

Happy Men's Day! Celebrating people is important because it builds community, strengthens relationships, and creates a culture of gratitude and appreciation. We all celebrate Women's Day. Morality Standards A picture is painted of a potter fashioning clay to his liking. And this animated picture brings life to the clay, with the clay protesting the Potters's design. This surprised Potter asks "Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?" Jeremiah 18:5 NIV It seems completely reasonable and moral that the Potter is allowed to shape the clay to his design and liking. Conversely it is unreasonable and immoral for the clay to protest the Potter's design.   "You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay!" Isaiah 29:16 NIV And yet, we continue in our unreasonability and turn things upside down. Why does mere clay (or humankind), protest the Potter (or God) on morality.
