Representing God as Families

Design - Rajiv

God's design is perfect. We can't argue and debate the divine design.

Instruction to the Husband

Verse: Ephesians 5:25

For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her

Jesus loved the church so much that he suffered and gave us everything. When Jesus set the standard, we as husbands should conform to this and nothing less.

Verse: 1 Peter 3:7

In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God’s gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered.

Instruction to the Wives

Verse: Ephesians 5:22‭-‬23

For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church.

Instruction to Children

Verse: Ephesians 6:1

Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do.

Characteristics of Godly Family

  • A godly family is not a perfect family but one that is growing in Christ-likeness
  • Live according to the word
  • Vulnerable to accept mistakes
  • Seeks to honor God in the way that honor  one another
  • Stands up for one another and supports one another
  • A godly family keeps no account of wrong.
  • A godly family puts others first
  • A godly family keeps promises
  • Celebrate others success and grieve when others suffer
  • Pray together

Devotion - Sunitha

Often times, we are trying to catch up with life and we ignore what is important. We ignore our time with God or Family altar or just exercising & being healthy..... If what is important is ignored then you want go too far.

"The key is not to prioritise what on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities" ...Stephen Covey

So in order to keep Devotion as priority, you need to have a routine. Once you have a routine, you can focus on different areas better.

" Change your routine: change your life" ...Bryan Westra

So when you are making a routine you need to put first thing first

Verse: Matthew 6:33

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Here is what this verse means

  • Daily walk with God
  • Daily walk with God is crucial and critical in the life of a Christian
  • It is the lifeline of a Christian
  • John 15:5 - I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear uch fruit; apart from me you can do nothing

Discipline - Sunitha

The story of Cornelius was one family that was disciplined. Cornelius was in the army and this could have played into his lifestyle of disciple.

Verse: Acts 10:1‭-‬3

1 In Caesarea there lived a Roman army officer named Cornelius, who was a captain of the Italian Regiment.

2 He was a devout, God-fearing man, as was everyone in his household. He gave generously to the poor and prayed regularly to God.

3 One afternoon about three o’clock, he had a vision in which he saw an angel of God coming toward him. “Cornelius!” the angel said.

Cornelius was devout. Devout means having or showing deep religious feeling. He did this with consistancy and regularly. Doing this regularly attracted God and the angel appeared to him. So the daily devotion and commitment will cause you to have the encounter with God

So here are some pointers

  • Invest in yourself
  • Unless you invest in yourself you wont be able to help others
  • Discipline yourself

Verse: 1 Corinthians 9:25

25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize.

How to invest in yourself?

  • Spiritually - Prayer
  • Physically - Exercise
  • Intellectually - Read books
  • Emotionally - Take time for yourself

How to invest in your work?

  • Faithful in service - He was good soldier
  • Cornelius was a centurian - He was responsible for his men. Be responsible
  • Served his country - Took the position inspite of the possibility of loosing his life in battle

Verse: Colossians 3:23

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

How to invest in your Family

  • Prayer
  • Time
  • Resources
  • Favoured the poor - So invest in the ppor and the needy
It is when you do these things regularly, consistently you will encountering divinity in our daily life. Here are some ways of how this will happen

  • Divine Encounter
  • Divine Connections
  • Divine Timings
  • Divine move

Dependence - Rajiv

Verse: Joshua 24:15

But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”

Life is full of challenges. We need to depend on God and serve him. All your needs will be met.

Duty - Rajiv

As Christians we need to

  • Practise hospitality
  • Community to Worship
  • Dont sacrifice the important for the urgent
  • Seek first
