 Spiritually Unclean

Spiritually unclean is moral defilement of soul. The defilement of the soul can happen because of things not related to our actions. Hence we need to be washed by the Word every day. So we need to be do this so that we will enter the Heavenly Kingdom

Verse: Revelation 21:27

Nothing evil will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty—but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

So how is an unclean situation dealt with

Verse: 1 Corinthians 6:11

Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

There are 3 areas that we need to be careful with respect to be clean

  • Spirit
  • Soul
  • Spirit

Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.

And God looks deep and so we need to be careful.

Verse: Jeremiah 17:10

But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.”

Uncleanness in the Spirit

The things that affect us in the Spirit

  • Jealousy Spirit
  • Lying Spirit
  • Perverse Spirit

Jealousy Spirit

Jealousy is should be dealt with. It eats up the soul 

Verse: Numbers 5:14

If her husband becomes jealous and is suspicious of his wife and needs to know whether or not she has defiled herself,

The passage talks about the the offering that needs to be made so that this uncleanness is dealt with. In our context, we may not understand that we have jealousy, so we always need to come in prayer.

Lying Spirit

There are people who live lying to themselves. They love lies so much that they keep listening to lies. Ahab was one person who loved the lies.

Verse: 1 Kings 22:22

“‘How will you do this?’ the Lord asked. “And the spirit replied, ‘I will go out and inspire all of Ahab’s prophets to speak lies.’ “‘You will succeed,’ said the Lord. ‘Go ahead and do it.’

The other forms of lying is flattery, superstition, false gospels

Perverse Spirits

People come up with ideas which are often perverse. 

Verse: Isaiah 19:14

The Lord has sent a spirit of foolishness on them, so all their suggestions are wrong. They cause Egypt to stagger like a drunk in his vomit.

The other agents that encourage perversity is alcohol

Verse: Proverbs 23:31‭-‬32

31 Don’t gaze at the wine, seeing how red it is, how it sparkles in the cup, how smoothly it goes down. 

32 For in the end it bites like a poisonous snake; it stings like a viper.

Care should be taken else perversity can come back with greater force

Verse: Matthew 12:44‭-‬45

44 Then it says, ‘I will return to the person I came from.’ So it returns and finds its former home empty, swept, and in order. 

45 Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before. That will be the experience of this evil generation.”

Uncleanness of the Soul - Unprincipled mind

The sould is affected by Unprincipled mind. We need to keep our thoughts on track with God's Word. An unprincipled mind will bring up foolishness

Verse: Romans 1:28

Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.

What is the guideline for our thoughts

Verse: Philippians 4:8

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

The heart is the place where sin is born.....

Verse: Matthew 15:19

For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander.

Uncleanness of the Body

The sins of the body is sexual sins

Verse: 1 Corinthians 6:18

Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.

The other areas are gluttony and physical restraint

Conclusion

Paul put boundaries for his life and he disciplined himself 

Verse: 1 Corinthians 9:27

I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

So let us also be careful in all the areas so we can inherit the Kingdom of God

Morality Standards A picture is painted of a potter fashioning clay to his liking. And this animated picture brings life to the clay, with the clay protesting the Potters's design. This surprised Potter asks "Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?" Jeremiah 18:5 NIV It seems completely reasonable and moral that the Potter is allowed to shape the clay to his design and liking. Conversely it is unreasonable and immoral for the clay to protest the Potter's design.   "You turn things upside down, as if the potter were thought to be like the clay!"
